England vs Albania: FA confident of no repeat of crowd trouble at Wembley after disorder against Hungary

The FA insist standard procedures have been followed for tonight’s World Cup qualifier against Albania, despite violent clashes during the last Wembley international.

England will play on home soil for the first time since being handed a one-game stadium ban and fined €100,000 (£87,500) for “the lack of order” which led to the shameful scenes at the final of Euro 2020.

With much scrutiny on tonight’s match, the FA refused to confirm if there would be extra security, but insisted the fixture would be “staffed accordingly”.

Last month’s match against Hungary was marred when police and stewards appeared to be overpowered by away fans before eventually restoring control.

That followed the chaotic Euro 2020 Final, which saw ticketless fans storm Wembley’s gates. As part of their punishment, a second behind-closed-doors game has been suspended for two years.

The FA will want tonight to pass without incident, particularly in light of the UK and Ireland’s hopes of staging the 2030 World Cup.
