England v Scotland: Ayrshire police pledge extra patrols ahead of Auld Enemy clash at Wembley

Police have pledged to beef up their presence on the streets tonight as Scotland take on England in Euro 2020.

Additional officers will focus on patrols of Ayrshire's towns and villages and will visit licensed premises to ensure current Covid guidelines are being followed.

Chief Inspector Brian Anderson, who will oversee tonight’s policing operation, said: “I am asking people to continue to stay safe, be kind to each other and enjoy yourselves responsibly.

"The current Covid restriction remain in place to protect local communities and I would ask people to continue to take personal responsibility to protect themselves and others.

"Supporting the national team can still be done within the current COVID-19 restrictions.

'If you are out and about tonight please follow the advice of licensed premises staff and stewards and seek assistance from local officers on patrol if need be.

"And if you ask us whilst we are working, ‘can you boogie?', there is only going to be one answer!'
