England v Denmark: Bristol in rapture as pubs go wild

England players have been singing Sweet Caroline in front of their fans at Wembley — but the song can be heard almost as loudly in Bristol tonight.

We were at the Three Lions in Bedminster, Lakota in St Pauls and Yate Town FC's clubhouse this evening, as fans struggled to contain their emotions during a frenetic, stress-filled and ultimately joyous win for England over Denmark in their Euro 2020 semi-final.

People have been letting off fireworks across the city to celebrate the victory. The tunes to Gala's Freed From Desire, the Neil Diamond classic Sweet Caroline and, of course, Three Lions, are inescapable for those anywhere near a bar in Bristol.

It all seemed to be going wrong when Denmark scored the first goal, but England soon equalised when Simon Kjaer put the ball into his own net, and Harry Kane netted the winner in extra time a moment after his penalty was saved.

Here are some of the scenes of delight across Bristol:

One fan in Lakota told Bristol Live that the celebrations were 'insane'.

He said: "People are absolutely mental."

You can see how Bristol reacted to each twist and turn in this recap of our live blog from this evening.

It means England are just one win away from claiming a first major trophy since 1966.

And we'd love to see your pictures and videos showing what's going on near you as Euro delirium grips the city. Send them in to bristolpostnews@localworld.co.uk
