New England U21 keeper Etienne Green is so French he's named after the famous Ligue 1 side he now plays for.
But this week he's set to star for the country of his birth, and his father, after the FA database of youngsters playing in Europe unearthed a gem.
Green was born in Colchester, so perhaps should be grateful that didn't end up as his christian name.
But he was brought up from the age of four in St Etienne and his mum is French.
Green, 21, has now played a dozen times for his French home town, after a rapid rise into the senior ranks in the last six months.
He was included in a France U21 squad last season but didn't play, and England forced him to make a “painful” choice.
He explained: “It’s like asking someone to choose between their parents. It’s not a rational or opportunistic choice, [they’re] two great countries, two great teams, that have always made me dream… It’s a choice of one country against another. I go with pride and 200% commitment.”
He added: “This of course does not change my deep ties, my attachment and my commitment to Saint-Étienne!”
Naturally since he will always carry their name.
“To be able to play for England is just amazing. Mum is happy for me.
“I do watch the Premier League. I don’t really have a favourite team but my uncle supports West Ham, so I have to say West Ham.
“From what I’ve seen, the Premier League has great intensity but nowadays in Ligue Un we have great players. We’ve got Messi who has arrived in Paris. Of course I’m looking forward to facing him (in November)!

“It’s quite unbelievable to have Messi in Ligue 1, it’s crazy.
“When I was looking up to England, it was Joe Hart (who I looked up to). I watched a lot of his sessions on YouTube.
“For now I’m focusing on my club, but one day I would like to play in the Premier League.
“I’m very proud to be part of this England U21 campaign. We have really great players with great qualities and hopefully we have a great campaign.
New U21 boss Lee Carsley explained that the FA's thoroughness in tracking top talent was key to Green's call up.
He said: “We’ve got a really good, world class goalkeeping department that tracks goalkeepers not only in England but throughout Europe.

“It was made known to us that Etienne qualifies to play for England so it was an avenue we started tracking him watching him, then he was brought onto the 21’s radar, I watched his games from this season and then when it was made known he was open to coming across and making the change of association I thought it was brilliant for us.
“He’s a goalie with a lot of potential obviously like a lot of the young goalkeepers, they need games, they need game time. He’s getting that at the minute at his club. He’s playing well in a good team in a very solid league so I think he more than deserves his place in the squad.
“It’s good because he’s competing with two other goalkeepers that are playing well as well so we are quite lucky in that respect that we have got really good competition for places.”
