England U21s beat Italy U21s: Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke scores brace as Young Lions win 2-1

Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke was on target with two goals as England Under-21s beat Italy in Thursday night's friendly.

Solanke's game time has been limited since leaving Chelsea to join Liverpool in summer 2017, with the 21-year-old currently playing for the Young Lions having represented England just once at senior level last November.

The forward has yet to make a first-team appearance for Liverpool this season, but struck twice for Aidy Boothroyd's England side at Stadio Paolo Mazza in Ferrara.

Solanke put the Young Lions ahead in the eighth minute, but Italy were level three minutes before the interval as Juventus youngster Moise Kean struck.

However, England - who have already qualified for next summer's U21 European Championships - were not to be denied as Solanke notched his second of the match eight minutes after the restart.
