England U19s match involving Manchester United and Man City players abandoned at half-time

England U19s' match against Scotland was abandoned at half time following a positive coronavirus test for a member of Scotland's backroom team.

The friendly, which involved both Manchester City and Manchester United youngsters, at St. George's Park on Thursday afternoon was the first of a planned double-header against Scotland but, shortly before the interval, the game was abandoned.

England were leading 3-1 at the time and players were waiting to go back onto the field when the positive coronavirus test was returned.

An SFA spokesperson said: "We can confirm Scotland U19s match against England at St. George's Park this afternoon was abandoned in the first half as a precaution in line with COVID-19 protocol. We are not in a position to comment any further at this time."

The FA issued a similar statement, which read: "England Under-19s' match with Scotland at St. George's Park this afternoon was abandoned in the first half as a precaution in line with COVID protocol. We are not in a position to comment further at this time."

City had five players named in the recent squad, with goalkeepers Louie Moulden and James Trafford joined by James McAtee, Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers.

Meanwhile, United defender Teden Mengi earned his first call-up to the U19 squad for the international break as the only representative from his club selected.
