England to face USA in Women's World Cup semi-final after Megan Rapinoe double downs France

England will meet the United States in the semi-finals of the Women's World Cup after the defending champions beat France in Paris.

The Americans survived a late fightback from the tournament hosts to win 2-1 in front of a record crowd at Parc des Princes to reach their 10th straight semi-final.

Two goals from Megan Rapinoe had the U.S in control before Wendie Renard's header in the 81st minute set up a grandstand finish.

That victory sets up an enticing tie with Phil Neville's Lionesses after they cruised past Norway 3-0 on Thursday.

Goals from Lucy Bronze, Ellen White and Jill Scott continued their 100 per cent record in the tournament and they are still yet to concede a goal.

They will meet the USA in Lyon on Tuesday for a place in the final.

France's elimination also means that Great Britain have qualified for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

England needed to finish as one of the top three European teams at the tournament to book GB's spot in Japan and victory for the U.S means a semi-final place is enough to guarantee their place.
