England to face Portugal in October friendly as Lionesses continue preparations for Euro 2021

England Women will play a friendly in Portugal on October 8, the FA has announced.

The fixture is part of a double-header that will begin with a match against Brazil three days earlier in Middlesbrough.

The Lionesses are hosting Euro 2021 and therefore have no competitive fixtures until the tournament, although many of the players are likely to be in Phil Neville’s Team GB squad for next summer’s Olympics.

The game will be played at the Bonfim Stadium, home of Primeira Liga club Vitória FC in Setúbal, 40km south of Lisbon.

It will be the first meeting of the two nations since the group-stage match at Euro 2017 in Netherlands, when goals from Toni Duggan and Nikita Parris helped England to a 2-1 win.

Neville said: “This will be another important match for us as we work to be ready for 2021.”

The Lionesses have struggled since finishing fourth at the World Cup in the summer, drawing with Belgium and losing to Norway in friendlies.

The FA have already announced a friendly against Germany at Wembley on November 9.
