England team news: Chelsea FC’s Mason Mount fit to face Poland after injury scare

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has shaken off a minor injury to be passed fit for England’s World Cup qualifier against Poland on Wednesday.

As Standard Sport reported earlier on Tuesday, Mount was absent from group training at Pennyhill Park, remaining indoors to work with England’s medical and performance team.

However, Gareth Southgate allayed any lingering fitness fears by confirming Mount is fit.

“He didn’t warm up with the rest of the team today, but he did the rest of the session after so he should be fine,” the England manager said on Tuesday evening.

Mount is looking to start a third England game in a row having impressed with his first-half display in the 5-0 rout of minnows San Marino at Wembley before scoring in the 2-0 victory in Albania on Sunday.

Asked if there were any other fitness issues in the 24-man squad, Southgate replied: “No, everyone is available.”

Poland will be without star striker Robert Lewandowski but are hopeful over the availability of Grzegorz Krychowiak after the midfielder returned a negative coronavirus test.
