England will be without Jarell Quansah for Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier against Latvia after he withdrew from camp with a knee injury.
The Bayer Leverkusen defender has returned to Germany as a precaution after missing training ahead of Thursday’s friendly clash with Wales.
Speaking ahead of the Wales match, England boss Thomas Tuchel said of Quansah: "He pulled out [of training] today at short notice. He has inflammation on the patella tendon and couldn't train."
Quansah’s withdrawal is a further blow for Tuchel, who is also sweating on the fitness of Harry Kane and Ollie Watkins.
Kane arrived in camp nursing a knock to his ankle and was not involved against Wales.
He was deputised by Watkins, who scored England’s second of three goals before colliding with the goalpost shortly before the half-time break, when he was replaced by Marcus Rashford.
It is a positive, though, that neither Kane nor Watkins have elected to leave the camp, suggesting both will be in contention to face Latvia, where a win could secure World Cup qualification.
Speaking after easing past Wales, Tuchel said Watkins’ injury was only minor: "He is OK. It was a clear goal for him normally, but he crashed into the post.
"It was very painful, but as I understand it now, it is only painful. So, no harm done."
It is not yet confirmed whether Kane will be available, though. No update has been offered on his condition since before England faced Wales, when Tuchel said: “We are convinced he will be ready for the match against Latvia.”
