Rory Burns and Sam Curran are set to play in Surrey’s T20 Blast opener at Essex tonight before joining England’s squad for the Test against Ireland next week.
Also in the team for the clash at Chelmsford are Australia one-day captain Aaron Finch and South Africa leg-spinner Imran Tahir, both of whom starred in the World Cup. Tom Curran is available after he was unused in England’s victorious campaign, while Liam Plunkett, who took three New Zealand wickets in Sunday’s final, is set to return for the London derby against Middlesex next Tuesday.
Essex lost their opening match against Middlesex at Lord’s on Thursday after AB de Villiers’s unbeaten 88 off 43 balls helped the hosts chase down 165 for the loss of just three wickets.
Meanwhile, Surrey have confirmed a sponsorship extension that will see their ground named the Kia Oval until at least 2024.
