England star would 'fit Liverpool perfectly' as £100m transfer claim made

England star Kalvin Phillips would "fit Liverpool perfectly" according to former Arsenal man Perry Groves.

Speculation is rife surrounding an Anfield move for Phillips amid concerns over Jordan Henderson's future at Liverpool.

The 25-year-old starred in midfield for the Three Lions throughout Euro 2020, even bumping the Liverpool captain down to the bench.

As a result of his summer exploits, the ‘Yorkshire Pirlo’ is being linked with several top-flight clubs, including Liverpool.

However, a summer transfer seems unlikely for the Reds after Phillips's Euro heroics caused his value to rocket.

According to Arsenal legend Groves, the midfielder is now worth £100million - way out of Liverpool's summer budget.

But that hasn't stopped Groves believing the Leeds United star would be a perfect match for Jurgen Klopp's side.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Groves said: “Kalvin Phillips fits Liverpool perfectly.

“The energy they play with, the closing down, his athleticism, his passing range.

“What would he cost? £100million.”

With Liverpool likely having to sell to buy during this transfer window, a move to Anfield can be firmly ruled out - much to the relief of Leeds fans.

His agent Kevin Sharp had previously dispelled rumours of a move away from Elland Road for the England international, insisting Phillips was happy at Leeds.

The former Leeds player, recently said: “There may be clubs who are actually looking at Kalvin now because the more successful you are – playing for England in big tournaments – naturally breeds interest.

“But Kalvin is happy at Leeds and has no desire to move whatsoever.

“It’s more a case of ‘carry on what you’re doing for club and country’.”
