England star Stuart Broad commits to Ashes tour and rules out potential postponement

England bowler Stuart Broad said he is "happy to get on a plane to Australia " for the Ashes this winter, but admitted the players need to "know what they are signing up for".

There are concerns amongst the England squad about Australia's strict coronavirus protocol and some players, particularly those who are involved in the T20 World Cup and have young children, are considering pulling out of the tour.

The likes of Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Dawid Malan, Chris Woakes and Mark Wood have all been named in England's World Cup squad and are also in contention for the Ashes.

With the World Cup leading directly into the series, those players could face up to four months away from their loved ones.

Buttler, whose wife recently gave birth to their second child, has already revealed he would be "open" to pulling out of the Ashes.

Broad, however, only plays Test match cricket for England and admits he is in a "very different" situation to some of his team-mates.

In his column for the Daily Mail, Broad said: "It is now just a couple of weeks away from a squad being selected but players can't sign up to something unless they know what they are signing up for.

Should the Ashes still go ahead this winter? Let us know in the comments section.

"If you ask me if I would be happy to get on a plane to Australia in November, I would say yes. I am working tirelessly to get there.

"I don't feel there will be a postponement. In my mind, it is 100 per cent clear that an England team of some description will embark on the tour.

"But if another player called me and told me they couldn't commit, I would totally accept it."

He added: "Personally, because my fiancee Mollie works, I am already resigned to the fact that she cannot be with me at any point — because by the time she has completed two weeks of quarantine she will have to be back on the radio.

"But I am in a fortunate position because Mollie is extremely understanding regarding my job, we don't have children, and I am 35 so these opportunities won't come around too often.

"That's why I am committed to going. It's a very different scenario if you are away from the start of the Indian Premier League this weekend or if you have kids."
