England defender Lucy Bronze has missed out on the Fifa Women's World Cup Goal of the Tournament award after Brazil star Cristiane was voted the winner.

According to Fifa, over 300,000 fans took part in the online poll on their website, with Bronze included among the 10 nominees after her stunning strike against Norway.

The 27-year-old saved the best goal until last, thundering in England's third of the night with a powerful 20-yard drive after a well-worked free-kick routine.

But the Lyon full-back was beaten to the prize by Cristiane, 34, who received the highest number of votes after her header against Italy.

Fans baffled by the decision took to Twitter to complain that Bronze's effort should have won.

One user tweeted the official Fifa Women's World Cup account insisting that Bronze had been "robbed" and should have won instead.

"How has this won goal of the tournament? @LucyBronze has been robbed!" she wrote.

Another fan tweeted: "@LucyBronze should've won, her goal was the best in the tournament."

Bronze also missed out on the Golden Ball award, given to the tournament's best player, finishing second behind the USA's Megan Rapinoe.
