England star Jadon Sancho issue apology after breaching Covid-19 rules at Tammy Abraham surprise party

Jadon Sancho has issued an apology after a breach of Covid-19 regulations which has delayed his arrival at England’s St. George's Park training camp.

Sancho and Chelsea full-back Ben Chilwell attended a surprise party for Blues striker Tammy Abraham on Saturday, with footage on social media suggesting at least 20 people were present, a clear violation of the Government’s ‘rule of six’.

All three players were told to stay away from St. George’s Park on Monday while the FA establish whether the breach could put the rest of the squad at risk.

Writing on Instagram, Sancho said: “I would like to apologise for breaking the government guidelines and although I was unaware upon arriving of the numbers attending, I take full responsibility for my actions.

“I will make sure moving forward that I learn from this.”

The trio’s actions give Gareth Southgate yet another off-field headache ahead of Nations League fixtures against Belgium and Denmark, and a friendly against Wales.

Raheem Sterling’s injury, which has ruled him out of all three games, and Reece James’ promotion from the U21 squad means Southgate starts the camp with 27 players and was today planning on reminding them of their responsibilities as England internationals.

The last international break was overshadowed by Harry Maguire’s dropping after he was arrested while on holiday in Greece, before Phil Foden and Mason Greenwood were sent home in embarrassment after breaching coronavirus protocols when inviting women into the team hotel.
