England squad revealed for Euro 2020 qualifiers as Kyle Walker is dropped

Manchester City defender Kyle Walker has been sensationally axed from England’s Euro 2020 qualifiers.

That is the shock omission from Gareth Southgate’s 25-man squad for the double headers with Kosovo and Bulgaria.

Walker was a mainstay in the World Cup but the Manchester City defender did not like playing at centre back as part of Southgate's three-man central defence.

Now Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Kieran Trippier and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all in but Walker misses out.

The announcement marks a debut call-up for Wan-Bissaka, who has enjoyed a bright start to his career at Manchester United following his £50million summer arrival from Crystal Palace.

Another notable inclusion is Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who has earned a recall after last playing for the Three Lions in March 2018.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, 26, has won 32 caps but has endured an injury nightmare with a knee problem which kept him out for a year and also forced him to miss the World Cup in the summer of 2018.

But his impressive start to the season for the title-chasing Reds has persuaded Southgate to include him in his latest squad, with the manager shaking things up on Thursday.

Like Wan-Bissaka, Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings has also earned a maiden call-up while Harry Winks, the Tottenham midfielder, returns to the international fold.

Southgate has also brought Kieran Trippier back into the fold after omitting him from the Nations League squad, leaving World Cup semi-finalist Walker conspicuous by his absence from the 25-man squad.

Fellow Manchester City defender John Stones, who has had a thigh problem, also missed out with Aston Villa defender Mings called up in his absence.

Chelsea playmaker Mason Mount and Leicester's James Maddison have both previously been part of the senior squad and have been included for the upcoming qualifiers.
