England squad named for Wembley triple-header as Phil Foden and Mason Greenwood axed

Gareth Southgate has dumped Phil Foden and Mason Greenwood from his England squad for the triple-header at Wembley.

England boss Southgate has left the disgraced pair out in the cold after their Iceland shame, as reported by Mirror Sport earlier this week.

But there are call-ups for Arsenal ’s Bukayo Saka, Leicester ’s Harvey Barnes and also a first call-up for Everton ’s in-form Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

There is also a recall for Manchester United captain Harry Maguire who had to drop out last time after ending found guilty of assault in a Greek court.

But Southgate has shown faith in Maguire while wanting to send a clear message to Foden and Greenwood as he looks to lay down an example on discipline.

The pair were sent home from Iceland in disgrace after being caught breaking strict lockdown rules in the team hotel.

It is a shock call for Arsenal’s versatile Saka who has been catching Southgate’s eye in both attack and defence.

Barnes also impressed the England manager for Leicester when they beat Manchester City on Sunday with Southgate at the Etihad.

Calvert-Lewin is now in the squad after his prolific form for Everton, including two hat tricks this season.

Jack Grealish is also in the squad as the Aston Villa man keeps his place.

Southgate has named 30 players in what must be seen as an experimental squad with potential for drop outs but also with Wales being a friendly.
