Declan Rice has been handed a first England call-up as Gareth Southgate names his squad for European qualifiers with Czech Republic and Montenegro.
The West Ham midfielder announced his decision to switch from the Republic of Ireland, who he had represented at youth level and in three senior friendlies, last month, before being hailed as the best holding midfielder England have got by manager Manuel Pellegrini.
The 20-year-old is set to feature in at least one of the Euro 2020 qualifiers, with the Three Lions facing Czech Republic on Friday, March 22 before travelling to Montenegro the following Monday.
Tottenham trio Dele Alli, Kieran Trippier and Harry Winks all faced fitness tests ahead of the squad announcement.
Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse, who has scored six goals in his last nine Premier League appearances under Ralph Hasenhuttl, had been seriously considered for a second senior call up, two years after his first, but misses out.
