England sends All Blacks packing to advance to Rugby World Cup final

New Zealand has failed in its bid to win a third-straight Rugby World Cup, with England defeating the All Blacks 19-7 in Yokohama to progress to next weekend's final.

The All Blacks, World Cup winners in 2011 and 2015, were outclassed by the Eddie Jones-coached England in what was a pulsating semi-final.

England had set up a 13-0 lead early in the second half, with its only try — scored by outside centre Manu Tuilagi — coming in the opening term.

The All Blacks finally responded in the 57th minute when Ardie Savea crossed for a try, which was converted, but England proceeded to give itself enough breathing space with consecutive George Ford penalty goals.

England will face either Wales or South Africa in the final, which will also be played in Yokohama, and it will be its first appearance in a World Cup decider since 2007.

The English are chasing a second World Cup triumph, having won their only title so far in 2003.

Jones, who coached the Wallabies in the 2003 final against England, said his side executed their game plan to perfection.

"We knew we would have to dig deep and take away time and space from them," Jones said after the match.

"We managed to do that and cause a few errors and we had a few lucky bounces and got the result."

Jones praised England's defensive effort against the defending World Cup champions.

"I think World Cups are about defence and our best form of attack is our defence," he said.

"We created opportunities for our defence to attack … I'd like to pay the greatest compliment to New Zealand. They won two World Cups in a row.

"They have been a great team, so we had to dig really deep to beat them."

More to come.
