England claimed a 66-44 victory over Jamaica to win the bronze medal at the World Cup in Sydney on Sunday.
England, who lost 50-39 to New Zealand in Saturday’s semi-final, finished third at the last tournament in Singapore in 2011 and matched that in Australia despite trailing by five goals in the first quarter of this play-off.
However, they fought back hard and took a 28-23 lead by the end of the first half before easily moving past their opponents with the goal shooter Joanne Harten chalking up 52 goals at the Olympic Park.
Australia, the defending champions, survived a late fight-back from New Zealand, who were unable to erase a nine-goal deficit, to win an adrenaline-charged final 58-55. It was their third consecutive success.
