England’s R-rate falls again, now between 0.8 and 1.1

England’s R-rate has fallen for a second week in a row and is now between 0.8 and 1.1, official data shows.

Last week the rate was between 1.1 and 1.4.

An R value between 0.8 and 1.1 means that, on average, every 10 people infected will infect between 8 and 11 other people.

A growth rate of between -3 per cent and 1 per cent means that the number of new infections could be broadly flat, shrinking by up to 3 per cent every day, or growing by up to 1 per cent every day.

The estimates are based on the situation two to three weeks ago, due to the time delay between someone being infected, developing symptoms, and needing healthcare.
