England’s most isolated home with no internet or mains electric can be yours for £1.5m

It has no road, mains electricity supply, phone signal or internet, but this property thought to be the most isolated in England is yours for £1.5million

Any buyer will have to walk or drive three miles cross-country to reach Skiddaw House.

Estate agents say it is set in 3.45 acres, but the six-bedroom pad is 1,550ft up a mountain and with no other building in sight.

The Lake District property is owned by a farmer and is the “ultimate, off-grid, escape from it all bolt-hole”.

Power is only provided by solar panels and the water supply comes from a spring and is heated by wood-burning stoves.

The remote property is said to be surrounded only by peaks and was built in 1829 as a gamekeeper’s lodge.

It has since been used as a shooting cabin and hikers’ refuge.

Andrew Wright of Mitchells Land Agency is expecting a lot of interest in the property.

He said: "It is an exceptionally rare opportunity to purchase somewhere as remote and peaceful as this."

The six-bedroom lodge is described as being set in 3.45 acres, is 1,550ft up a mountain and "surrounded by other peaks — with no other building in sight. "

It is currently owned by a farmer and is billed as the “ultimate, off-grid, escape from it all bolt-hole”.

Solar panels provide power, water comes from a spring and it is heated by wood-burning stoves.

Built in 1829 as a gamekeeper’s lodge, it has been used as a shooting cabin and hikers’ refuge.

Rightmove says it was built in 1829 by the Earl of Egremont of Cockermouth Castle in the middle of Skiddaw Forest in the lonely lands back o'Skidda, Keswick.

Its sales literature boasts: "Situated in 3.45 acres 1,500 feet above sea level and only accessible by foot or 4x4 vehicle.

"Skiddaw House is a 19th Century shooting lodge used over the years as a gamekeeper's lodge, shooting cabin, shepherds dwelling, schools field centre, ramblers bothy and currently a youth hostel.

Mr Wright added: "To look at it, it is quite a plain property - because it is on the side of a mountain. You don't look at any other property.

"It is an exceptionally rare opportunity to purchase somewhere as remote and peaceful as this.
