Tennis stars said England’s spectacular win against Germany will bring the “feelgood factor” to Wimbledon — and inspire more success.

British player Katie Boulter, 24, said the win would spur on all home competitors on court on Wednesday, adding she hoped both she and the England team stayed in their competitions “for as long as possible”.

The Leicester City fan, who was facing number two seed Aryna Sabalenka on centre court this afternoon, said she was “pleased” she wasn’t playing last night so she could watch the match.

Former British number one Tim Henman said: “There has been such a good feelgood vibe at Wimbledon — a) having players back after the cancellation and b) having spectators back. England’s win just adds to the positivity.”

England fans at Wimbledon watched the game on their phones as the match was not shown anywhere on site.

They will have to do the same on Saturday when the Three Lions play Ukraine after the All England Club confirmed the match would not be on big screens.

Henman admitted the England match was on in the background as he commentated. The former British number one, 46, was giving his verdict on the BBC for Roger Federer’s game on centre court.

He said: “We did have it on in the commentary box. So we had to make sure at the appropriate moments we had our microphones turned off!”
