Imagine the headlines in the Tory press if it was Jeremy Corbyn, rather than George Osborne, visiting China to foster closer economic and cultural links (Report, 21 September).

• I am struggling to understand why you illustrated a story about bridge (Judge to rule on whether bridge is a sport or not, 23 September) with a photo of someone playing canasta.
