England reach Cricket World Cup final! Hosts thrash Australia to set up New Zealand showdown

England have reached their first Cricket World Cup final in 27 years after beating Australia in Thursday's semi-final clash.

After bowling out the opposition for 223, England secured an emphatic eight wicket victory over their old rivals at Edgbaston.

The hosts will meet New Zealand in Sunday's final at Lord's after the Black Caps beat India in their semi-final on Wednesday.

England’s last visit to the competition final was in 1992, when they lost to Pakistan.

Australia initially left England’s hopes of reaching the knock-out stages in tatters with a comprehensive 64-run victory in the group stages of the competition.

But victories against India and Sunday’s opponents New Zealand revived their World Cup hopes before exacting sweet revenge against the Aussies in Birmingham today.

England made a dream start to proceedings, taking three quick wickets with Steve Smith was the only Australia batsman to hit 50 as the hosts took control.

With the bat, they surged to 124 without loss en route to victory.
