England qualify for Euro 2020 with win over Montenegro at Wembley

England have confirmed their qualification for Euro 2020 after a fine 7-0 victory over Montenegro.

Gareth Southgate’s side needed just a point from their final two games of the qualifying campaign with a trip to Kosovo to follow on Sunday.

But they have booked their place in next summer’s competition with a game to spare after a thrilling, one-sided victory over Montenegro at Wembley on Thursday night.

The Three Lions scored five first-half goals without reply as Harry Kane scored a hat-trick, with Marcus Rashford and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also getting on the scoresheet.

England’s only blemish in their qualifying campaign was away to Czech Republic in October, dropping their only points in a 2-1 defeat in Prague.

But an otherwise superb run sees the Three Lions join Belgium, Italy, Russia, Poland, Ukraine and Spain as the sides certain of a place in Euro 2020.

The competition will kick off in Rome on 12 June next year.
