England provisional squad for Euro 2020 as Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ben Godfrey included

England boss Gareth Southgate has named his provisional extended squad for this summer’s European Championship.

Southgate, it is believed, has named a 33-man provisional squad rather than his final 26 players due to the number of England stars involved in this week's Champions League and Europa League finals.

Injuries to key players, including Jordan Henderson, Harry Maguire, Kalvin Phillips and Nick Pope, are also believed to have played a part in Southgate delaying his squad announcement.

England provisional Euro 2020 squad in full:

Keepers - Dean Henderson, Sam Johnstone, Jordan Pickford, Aaron Ramsdale.

Defenders - Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ben Chilwell, Conor Coady, Ben Godfrey, Reece James, Harry Maguire, Tyrone Mings, Luke Shaw, John Stones, Kieran Trippier, Kyle Walker, Ben White.

Midfielders - Jude Bellingham, Jordan Henderson, Jesse Lingard, Mason Mount, Kalvin Phillips, Declan Rice, James Ward-Prowse.

Forwards - Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Mason Greenwood, Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka, Jadon Sancho, Raheem Sterling, Ollie Watkins.

The delay gives the England boss an extra week to ponder his options, as the UEFA deadline for squads to be formally submitted is June 1.

As well as Liverpool’s Henderson and Alexander-Arnold and Everton’s Godfrey, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jordan Pickford have also been named in Southgate's provisional squad, but there is no place for Michael Keane.

Brighton’s Ben White, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool over the past year, has also been named in the squad, despite being yet to feature for the Three Lions.

UEFA confirmed earlier this month that squads for EURO 2020 would be increased from 23 players to 26 following a decision by their Executive Committee.

The governing body made the call in a bid to mitigate the risks of teams facing a shortage of available players due to possible positive COVID-19 tests and subsequent quarantine measures.

England's first match of Euro 2020 is against Croatia on June 13, but before that they have friendlies against Austria June 2 and Romania four days later.
