England players meet spiritual leader Dalai Lama ahead of Dharamsala Test

NEW DELHI: Few members of the touring England squad on Wednesday paid a visit to the residence of the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, located in McLeod Ganj near Dharamsala. This meeting took place on the eve of the fifth and final Test match against India.

The players engaged in this unique and culturally significant experience, highlighting the diverse interactions that often occur during international sports tours.

England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) posted a photo on social media platform X, featuring the team members alongside the Nobel laureate for Peace.

"An incredible honour to meet his holiness, the @DalaiLama. England players and management attended his residence in McLeod Ganj, Dharamshala," the ECB said in their post.

The group of England team members who visited the residence of the Dalai Lama included Zak Crawley, Tom Hartley, Dan Lawrence, Ollie Pope, Gus Atkinson, and assistant coach Marcus Trescothick.

England, captained by Ben Stokes, faced a series defeat as they entered the Dharamsala clash trailing 1-3.

In preparation for the final Test starting on Thursday, the team has made a solitary change to their XI that played in the fourth Test in Ranchi. Pacer Mark Wood will replace Ollie Robinson for the concluding match of the series.
