England need 'crazy moments' to beat Pakistan as hosts "happy with a draw" says Will Jacks

All-rounder Will Jacks has admitted England will need to "have a few crazy moments go our way" if they are to win the first Test against Pakistan on a lifeless Rawalpindi pitch.

England hit a mammoth 657 in their first innings, with Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope and Harry Brook all scoring impressive centuries. In response, Pakistan's openers Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq reached the close of play on day two having shared an unbeaten 181-run partnership.

And on a pitch so flat PCB chairman Ramiz Raja called it "embarrassing", Jacks claimed Pakistan "look like they are happy with a draw" while England will be "pushing for the win no matter what".

Speaking to BBC Test Match Special, the debutant declared: "There's only one team that can win it. Pakistan look like they are happy with a draw.

"With this team environment we've got and our leaders, we'll be pushing for the win no matter what happens. We're going to have to take a few worldie catches and have a few crazy moments go our way to win.

"There's a lot of cricket left to be played. They have batted well, which they're allowed to do. We'll be pushing for a win over the next three days."

Brook, meanwhile, is confident in England's chances of winning despite admitting it will be "tough to get 20 wickets". He said: "It's a pretty nice wicket to bat on, as you can tell by our score.

"It's gonna be tough to get 20 wickets but we're going to give it a crack and hopefully it can go in our favour. We went through a few [bowling] plans there, [we will] probably stick to bowling straight.

"It's going to start getting lower I think and it's going to start going underground. If we start there, hopefully, we can get a few lbs which keep low and, obviously, we tried the bouncers; it's just about striking at the right time and going bang, bang really."
