England fans were left fuming after an early red card for Charlie Ewels in the big Six Nations clash with Ireland at Twickenham this evening.
The game was just one minute and 26 seconds old when Ewels was given his marching orders following a high tackle.
The decision was met with boos from the home crowd and England fans also took to social media to vent their anger with French referee Mathieu Raynal.
One angry fan tweeted: "Rugby needs to rethink its rules. 1m22s into the game and its a red for what was a relatively innocuous challenge. Game over, switching channels. #Rugby #ENGvIRE."
Another England supporter said: "Total nonsense, absolute and complete nonsense. Game has just started, arms were wrapped just a didn’t get as low as he should. Complete nonsense. Game spoiled now. Well done Ref. #ENGvIRE."
While another English fan fumed: "ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS, RUINING THE GAME #ENGvIRE."
Another disgruntled supporter wrote: "No point in rugby any more."
Meanwhile, Ireland fans weren't impressed by the boos that rang out around Twickenham, both after the red card and during Johnny Sexton's resulting penalty.
One responded to the boo-boys by tweeting: "Absolutey disgusting behaviour from the English fans. Keep the booing for football."
Andy Farrell's visitors got off to a flying start in pursuit of the Tripe Crown and built up an early 8-0 lead after Sexton's penalty and a James Lowe try.
