England fans kicking off over £99.95 price for new replica kit for Euros

Football fans are kicking off over the price of England’s new replica kits for next summer’s European Championships.

Supporters wanting to buy a “match” home or away shirt as worn by the players will have to fork out £99.95, plus an extra £59.95 for the shorts.

With a player’s name and number printed on the back, it comes to a total of £114.95.

The budget “stadium” version - made of cheaper fabric - costs £69.95 and a whopping £54.95 for kids.

One fan tweeted: “I like them – but you price me out of getting them for my two children. I simply can’t justify that sort of money on two football tops. Pricing needs to be reviewed I am convinced you’ll sell so much more.”

Another fumed: “Still in the midst of a pandemic and people are struggling financially and FA thinks it’s acceptable to bring out a new shirt.”

England’s previous match shirt, launched in 2018, cost £90 and the standard ones were £60. One supporter tweeted: “Do I buy the £100 one or the £70 one during a recession?”

Another wrote: “£100 for the new England home kit. No consideration for the fans at all. Game’s gone.”

Sportswear firm Nike released the kit on its website on Tuesday.

The design is inspired by the one the Three Lions wore during the 1998 World Cup in France.

The tournament was made famous by Michael Owen’s wonder goal and David Beckham’s sending off against Argentina.

Glenn Hoddle’s team lost the last-16 game on penalties.

Gareth Southgate’s men will wear the new strip at next summer’s tournament after Euro 2020 was delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

It will take place in stadiums around Europe from June 2021, with the final held at Wembley.

England skipper Harry Kane, 27, said the kits symbolised the players’ unity with the fans.

The striker said: “This team is closer than it’s ever been before – when we put on that England jersey, all club rivalries are set aside.

“We’re united in our goal of representing our fans far and wide. This collection captures that feeling of togetherness we hold so dearly.”
