The Queen, known for her diplomacy and Received Pronunciation, has apparently left a ‘secret’ message to England manager Gareth Southgate, ahead of their match against Italy in the Euro 2020 final.
“It’s coming home”.
The letter, posted to social media on Saturday, reads: “55 years ago I was fortunate to present the World Cup to Bobby Moore and saw what it meant to the players, management and support staff to reach and win the final of a major international football tournament.
“I want to send my congratulations and that of my family to you all on reaching the final of the European Championships, and send my good wishes for tomorrow with the hope that history will record not only your success but also the spirit, commitment, and pride with which you have conducted yourselves.”
However, some have since pointed out that by circling a few random letters, Her Majesty’s message can actually contain the lyrics made famous by David Baddiel, Frank Skinner and The Lightning Seeds.
Magical.

There’s a secret message in the C Queen’s letter… pic.twitter.com/tEJsXvhvhG

While Matt had to remind people that it’s a joke, the Queen has been rumoured to use certain items as codes for how she is feeling. There’s the one time that she wore a hat closely resembling the EU flag in Parliament, or the claims that the way she positions her handbag indicates how she’s feeling about a particular situation.
And it seems as though Twitter was happy to indulge in the ‘conspiracy’:
This is hilarious! Well played sir 👏😂

How come no one sees the real message? 🤔 "55". It's so clear! She orders Gareth Southgate to play a 5-5 system. Not 4-3-3 or 4-4-2, not 3-5-2 or 4-2-2-2 but just simply 5-5. At Her Majesty’s Pleasure.

This is clearly fake. The Queen would never leave out the apostrophe in "It's".
