One England fan in Liverpool urged Prime Minister Boris Johnson to "do the right thing" over the possibility of a Bank Holiday in the aftermath of the Euro 2020 final.
Fans in Liverpool have weighed in with their thoughts on a potential bank holiday and would welcome a Monday off as Gareth Southgate hopes to become the first England manager to win the European Championship.
The England supporters were out in force in Liverpool city centre as the Three Lions faced Italy in their first final for 55 years after beating Denmark in extra-time.
Ahead of the final on Sunday, some schools across the country had texted parents allowing their children to go in at a later time with the match kicking-off at 8pm.
There were calls and petitions created calling for a nationwide bank holiday should Gareth Southgate's side create history and win the European Championships for the first time.
One fan told the ECHO: “It’s a piece of history and hopefully a successful bit that England can add. I’d be delighted if there was a bank holiday tomorrow.”
Whilst Sam Nightingale added: “Absolutely (I’d) love a Bank Holiday, if it’s a week later the kids are off anyway.”
One petition on the Parliament website reached 320,000 signatures but Johnson remained coy ruling out the possibility of an announcement prior to the final.
He said: “I think that would be tempting fate; let’s see what happens.”
Whilst his official spokesperson said: “I don’t want to pre-empt the outcome of Sunday’s match. Clearly, we want England to go all the way and win the final, and then we will set out our plans in due course."
