England fans hunted by police after houseboats targeted in bizarre prank

Holidaymakers were left terrified after England fans untied their houseboats after the Three Lions’ win against Germany.

Police are hunting the football fans, who allegedly untied the houseboats on the River Wensum in Norwich and left them to float away in a late night prank.

Footage shows the group of four men walking along and two of them releasing the boats and escaping before the owners wake up.

One boat can even be seen in the footage swinging out into the canal.

It is thought the prank happened after England’s 2-0 win over Germany in the Euros on Tuesday last week.

Broads Beat, who police the rivers in Norfolk, said extra patrols were being deployed to the area.

It said: “Hi-Vis reassurance patrols along River Wensum, in Norwich, after England match following overnight antisocial behaviour with two boats untied from Quayside at Yacht Station frightening holidaymakers on board.

“This is a Norfolk Broads Authority bylaw offence which we are assisting them with as Norfolk Police.

“At 10pm on Tuesday, a group of four males walked along Riverside Road, Norwich, with two deciding to break off and untie two boats.

“Thankfully, this is very rate but still a dangerous prank and a bylaw offence.”

It can be dangerous for boaters as their vessels can be swept into locks and could crash into other boats.
