England fans fume as BBC iPlayer goes down at World Cup 2022 kick off

Football fans across the United Kingdom were understandably frustrated after missing today's initial World Cup 2022 kick-off between England and Iran, as the BBC iPlayer appeared to stop working.

Viewers trying to watch the highly anticipated game online were greeted with an error message, reading: "Sorry, it looks like something's not working right now."

It then asked users to in-turn try again in 'a few minutes', but some reported that they were only able to get onto the stream around ten minutes after the ball was first played at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha.

One user, wrote: "How is BBC IPlayer down during the [SIC] World Cup?? Poor from BBC" while another, added: "Trying to get in and watch the game on the BBC iPlayer and its down. What the hell is that all about?"

A third, penned: "Anyone else struggling to get o to BBC Iplayer app?" while a fourth, continued: "Is BBC iplayer servers down? Why can’t I log in :("

Many were eventually granted access to watch the game, but the troubles didn't come to a close then - with some stating that their streams were behind from real time scores by minutes.

One, wrote: "nah bbc iplayer is so delayed," while a second, added: "My iPlayer is on such a lag LOL." A third, said: "iplayer lag haters unite," while a fourth, wrote: "90 secs delay on bbc iplayer website, excellent."
