After England’s heartbreaking defeat in the EURO 2020 final to Italy ending in 1-1 (3-2 on penalties), fans are already getting excited about the next international tournament - The 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Despite losing last night’s match, the Three Lions have a lot to be proud of as the first English men’s football team to reach a tournament final in 55 years.
Although England fans are disappointed at not overcoming the last hurdle, they remain optimistic about the squad’s chances next year due to their spectacular performance this summer.
Supporters took to Twitter to share their excitement about England’s prospects for the World Cup in 2022.
Oasis front man Liam Gallagher shared some love for the Three Lions squad and said “we go again on the World Cup.”
Gutted about the footy but gotta BIG UP the lads and Gareth Southgate and the fans that was something else we go again on the World Cup peace n love and most of all RESPECT ✊ LG x

Comedian and TV presenter, Richard Osman has made his predictions for upcoming year, and they include England winning the World Cup.
I mean, genuinely, what a great tournament though. And now we move on to Fulham squeaking into the play-offs and then England winning the World Cup.

Lord Alan Sugar gave his match analysis on what went wrong but also said: “we have the greatest England team we have seen for the past 50 years.”
He added: “Bring on the world cup.”
A lot of pressure on 3 kids to take penalties. In what was the most important game for 50 odd years. Perhaps the only tactical mistake made by Gareth through the tournament. However we have the greatest England team we have seen for the past 50 years. Bring on the world cup.

Illusionist Uri Geller’s positive energy couldn’t help England lift the trophy last night but he shared how he will “Look forward to the World Cup.”
Friends, Like the amazing England squad, I tried my very best but on the night it just wasn't to be.

Respect to the players, Gareth Southgate and to the millions of fans.
Those who put up racial comments are despicable.
Look forward to the World Cup. ❤️⚽️🏴🏆#EURO2020 pic.twitter.com/z1tNOAspsV
Many England fans also shared similar sentiments as they look ahead to competition in Qatar which will be held from 21 November to 18 December 2022.

But there’s a World Cup in 18 months and another Euros 18 months after that.
And these beautiful boys are all young enough to be at both. Onwards.
Seeing the performance from our team throughout the tournament makes me even more excited for the World Cup. Well done England! 🏴🏴🏴@England @MarcusRashford

While some pointed out that France lost the Euro 2016 final in their own country - Stade de France Stadium in Paris - against Portugal.
However, despite this gut-wrenching loss, the French team then went on to win the 2018 World Cup.
Perhaps history will repeat itself with England next year?
At least fans are hoping this will be the case.
France lost euro 16 in their own country and won the next World Cup. England lost euro 20 in their own country, the World Cup is next year… pic.twitter.com/4LJ6iMveW7

France lost the Euro final in 2016 before winning the World Cup.

Just saying.
Ever since the 2018 World Cup, I’ve said that we’d get to the Euros Final, draw 1-1 but lose on pens (although I always thought it’d be France).

The other night I dreamt we’d lose... but then go on to win the World Cup and the next Euros…
just putting it out there… 🏴💙
Back in 2013, the Football Association chairman, Greg Dyke said that England should aim to reach the semi-finals of Euro 2020 and win the World Cup in 2022, BBC Sport reported at the time.
So the team appear to be exceeding the targets set for them, by going one step further to reach the Euro 2020 final.
England have not yet qualified for the World Cup yet but well on their way after winning all three qualification matches against Albania, Poland and San Marino.
In September, England will face fellow Group I opponents, Hungary and Andorra, and will then play Poland again in a second match.
Currently, England sit at the top of their group on nine points with Hungary close behind in second with seven points.
Though, we’ll have to wait and see if the Three Lions can do one better and win the 2022 World Cup in Qatar next year.
Only 497 days to go... but we’re not counting.
