England facing sleepless nights as noisy camels cause havoc at World Cup hotel

There are fears that England's stars could be left facing sleepless nights throughout the World Cup - because of a pair of noisy camels outside their hotel.

Gareth Southgate's charges touched down in Qatar on Tuesday ahead of the showpiece tournament, which kicks off on Sunday when the hosts entertain Ecuador. England get their Group B campaign underway against Iran on Monday afternoon.

The Three Lions chief and FA bosses deliberated over the squad's World Cup base before plumping for the Souq Al Wakra Hotel. The venue was believed to be the perfect spot for England to get away from the flurry of excitement of Qatar capital Doha - but their decision has seemingly backfired.

The Daily Star has revealed that a pair of grunting camels have been been vocal at all hours of the night just outside the luxury wellness retreat.

The camels are housed in a fenced off pen on the beach just yards away from the shoreside resort which is set to host the England squad, coaching staff and FA support figures.

Camels are renowned for their noisy antics - and unfortunately for England, locals have revealed that the pair outside the Three Lions' World Cup base are particularly fond of a chitchat.

One local cafe owner said: "The camels like to talk. It makes them popular with the tourists. Maybe they will keep England awake so Qatar will win."

And there's more bad news for England when it comes Tripadvisor reviews. While some praise England's chosen hotel as a 'quiet' and 'peaceful' place to stay, one guest warned: "The sound insulation in the room is very bad."

The camels groans has already caused frustration for one poor cameraman: his attempts to film footage of England's hotel was interrupted on numerous occasions - forcing him into a staggering seven reshoots.

The Three Lions touched down in Qatar on Tuesday evening after a send-off from Prince William, the President of the FA.

And Southgate insisted that his squad were ready to make the nation "proud again" - less than 18 months on from their agonising penalty shootout defeat in the Euros final.

The England chief said on Tuesday: "It was a nice moment to be with the group and Prince William, who has been a huge supporter of ours. I know how passionate the players are about their country and it was great to see what it meant to each of them as they came forward.

"As staff and players, we are all so privileged to represent England and we are excited to see what’s possible together. We want to make the fans proud again."
