England could appoint stand-in coach for winter campaigns when Trevor Bayliss leaves after Ashes

England could name a stand-in coach during winter campaigns when Trevor Bayliss leaves after the Ashes.

Bayliss will stick to his plan to quit after the Ashes later this summer and England’s managing director Ashley Giles admits they could have a stand-in during the winter campaigns in New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka.

Giles told Sky Sports: “We will wait until after the Ashes before going through any process for a new coach. If we have to go into the winter with someone standing in for the time being, we will do that.”

Meanwhile, it is not clear whether Eoin Morgan plans to remain England’s short form captain.

The World Twenty20 takes place next year and Morgan has yet to say whether he intends to lead the team in Australia.

Giles said: “We will wait to talk about that. Eoin has been a brilliant leader of the team and a crucial part of the turnaround in our white-ball form.”
