England confirm Man City star Raheem Sterling has suffered an injury

Manchester City' have suffered yet another injury blow as Raheem Sterling has been ruled out of England's Nations League match with Belgium.

Sterling was rested in the Three Lions' 3-0 friendly victory over Ireland on Thursday but picked up a knock while training with his international teammates on Saturday.

Reports from the Telegraph earlier today suggested that the injury wasn't too serious and that the winger was to have a fitness test ahead of the game to see if he could make the match.

However, Sterling isn't involved in the crucial Group B match in Belgium, with the official England Twitter account confirming the injury.

The tweet read: "There's no @sterling7 in the #ThreeLions squad this evening, as the forward misses out through injury."

Sterling remained upbeat despite the news, tweeting his support for the side by writing: "Come on lads", accompanied by three lions and a praying emoji.

There is not yet any confirmation of what type of injury Sterling has suffered and how long he could face on the sidelines.

However, the news will bring further frustration to Pep Guardiola, who has already seen Nathan Ake suffer an injury during the international break after the centre-back was substituted after just six minutes in the Netherlands' friendly draw with Spain clutching his hamstring.

The hectic and condensed fixture schedule this season has led to a significant increase in muscle injuries for every team in the Premier League, and City have been hit badly.

Sterling's latest ailment means takes the tally of injuries is up to 17 for the season, with only a handful of players not missing at least one game due to injury or the coronavirus.
