England head coach Eddie Jones has told his players the coronavirus outbreak represents an opportunity for them to become better citizens.
Players are training from home due to the ongoing lockdown and suspension of rugby.
The Premiership has been postponed until 14 April at the earliest, while Top 14 and Pro14 fixtures have also been suspended.
And while Jones wants his players to maintain their fitness, he has also said this is a time for them to improve as individuals.
“It is a difficult time,” Jones said on the England Rugby Podcast. “Obviously, the health of everyone is the most important thing.
“Rugby has always inspired teamwork. One of the things we talk about with the England team is how you can become a better team-mate.
“Now, for everyone, it is about how you become a better citizen. One of the values we talk about is togetherness.
“Watching everyone standing outside of their houses and applauding the NHS was an indication of the great togetherness of society.”
Jones and his staff are maintaining communication with players during the lockdown and have provided them with kit and training programmes where necessary.
“They are not training for their clubs,” said Jones. “We have tried to assist the clubs with equipment and given players ideas about how they can train.”
