England call up Kalvin Phillips again while Patrick Bamford and Luke Ayling miss out

Kalvin Phillips has been called up by Gareth Southgate again for the latest England squad as they prepare for three upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

The Leeds United midfielder will look to add to his four caps after missing November's matches through injury, but contrary to recent speculation, there is no place for Luke Ayling or Patrick Bamford for the triple-header against San Marino, Albania and Poland.

Bamford, who was capped at England under-21 level, turned down the advances of the Republic of Ireland in 2018, and was well backed by the wider media to make this squad after a glut of goals.

However, Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins has been preferred to the Whites number nine and wins his first call-up to the national team.

England take on San Marino at Wembley on March 25 before making the trip to Albania three days later and then returning home to face Poland on March 31, where Phillips could be up against Leeds team-mate Mateusz Klich, who retains his place in the Polish squad.
