England bowler Mark Wood backs plan to quarantine stars for two months to play summer Tests

England bowler Mark Wood says he would be willing to go through a two-month quarantine period to play Test cricket this summer.

The ECB have suspended professional cricket until at least July 1 because of the coronavirus pandemic, meaning the Test series against the West Indies, which was due to begin next month, has been postponed, while there is uncertainty over the visit of Pakistan later in the summer.

Any matches that do take place will almost certainly do so behind closed doors, but organisers are desperate to get games on in some capacity in order to secure much-needed income from broadcasters.

A report in The Guardian on Wednesday claimed England could summon a large squad of 30 players to live in isolation for as long as nine weeks in order to fulfil both planned Test series. Grounds such as Old Trafford in Manchester and the Ageas Bowl in Southampton would be used as ‘bio-secure’ venues because they have on-site hotels.

"I'd be willing to do it," Wood said. "It would be very hard but as long as the environment is safe, my family are safe and everybody else there is safe then I'd be willing.

"I think everybody in the squad, as long as the conditions are right, would be willing to come back and play some cricket. We're desperate to get going.

"Being away on tour for long periods of time you sort of get used to it. I know it would be a long stint and it would be hard but it would be good to get back out there at the same time."
