England bowl India out for 78 as James Anderson sparks shocking collapse in third Test

England bowled India out for 78 on day one of the third Test at Headingley, after Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bat first.

James Anderson got things off to the perfect start for England, as he picked up 3-6 in his opening spell of eight overs.

The veteran dismissed KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara and Kohli for single figures, with all three nicking behind to wicketkeeper Jos Buttler.

In his first over, Anderson set up Rahul beautifully, drawing him into a loose drive shot.

He then tempted Pujara's edge with an outswinger, having set him up expertly with a series of inswingers.

Anderson then managed to get the better of his great rival Kohli, getting him caught behind for just seven - the seventh time he has dismissed the Indian captain in Test match cricket.

Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane attempted to battle through to lunch, but Ollie Robinson then got in on the act, getting Rahane caught behind for 18.

Robinson also picked up the dangerous Rishabh Pant for just two shortly after lunch.

Both Craig Overton and Sam Curran then took two wickets in two balls, with Overton first getting Sharma caught on the pull and Mohammed Shami caught at third slip.

In the following over, Curran got Ravi Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah both out LBW and saw his hat-trick delivery reviewed, despite Mohammed Siraj getting a big inside edge.

England then took the final wicket, with Overton getting Siraj caught at slip and India scoring just 78 runs in their first innings.

It was a remarkable innings, with Anderson getting things started with an outstanding opening spell.

Robinson then picked up two key wickets, before a mad two over spell saw England take four wickets for just two runs.

It was the ninth lowest score India have ever posted in a Test match and only two players managed to reach double figures.
