England boost as Ellis Genge returns to training after Six Nations injury scare

Ellis Genge will return to England rugby team training at Twickenham today after being forced out yesterday with an ankle injury.

With Mako Vunipola already ruled out of the Six Nations with an ankle injury of his own, the apparently unserious nature of Genge’s injury is good news for Eddie Jones.

England face Wales in Cardiff next Saturday and Genge and Ben Moon are set to be the two loose-head props in the 23.

Were a third required, Moon’s Exeter team-mate Alex Hepburn, who starts against Gloucester on Friday night, would be in line for a spot, as he was in November when England faced a crisis in the position following Joe Marler’s retirement and an injury to Vunipola.

“We don’t think there will be any major consequences but it was the right decision to ensure he didn’t finish training,” said forwards coach Steve Borthwick of Genge.

Borthwick added that Maro Itoje is on track to be fit for the latter part of the tournament.
