England beat Colombia on penalties: Who scored as Eric Dier scores and Three Lions win first ever World Cup shootout

England won a World Cup penalty shootout for the first time in their history after Eric Dier slotted away the winning spot-kick in a 4-3 win.

Yerry Mina’s 93rd minute header cancelled out Harry Kane’s opener – which also came from the spot – to take the game to extra time as the nerves grew as the shootout loomed.

The last time England had won any form of penalty shootout was against Spain at Euro ’96, where they also lost to Germany in the semi-finals with manager Gareth Southgate missing the vital spot-kick.

However, they banished those demons with the win from the spot as they booked a place in the quarter-finals – the first time they have reached that stage since 2002, when they lost to Brazil in Japan and South Korea.

Here’s how the shootout went in Moscow:

Harry Kane – GOAL

Radamel Falcao – GOAL

Marcus Rashford – GOAL

Luis Muriel – GOAL

Jordan Henderson – SAVED

Mateus Uribe – MISS (crossbar)

Kieran Trippier – GOAL

Carlos Bacca – SAVED

Eric Dier – GOAL
