England batters need to read situations better: Marcus Trescothick

LUCKNOW: After losing four matches in their World Cup campaign, the England team is desperate to bounce back with a victory.

Marcus Trescothick, assistant coach of the England team, on Saturday said that playing against India was special and the team was looking forward to the match. He stressed that England batters should read situations better.

"Playing against India in World Cup in their own country is special. There will be a big crowd and it will be a wonderful occasion. We're looking forward to this chance. There's nothing more that we can offer apart from going out and playing. Hopefully we will come out on top at the end of it," he said.

Speaking about the batting order, Trescothick said: "We have an attitude to how we've gone about batting in the last many years since our white-ball cricket has changed and evolved. And it's always trying to be positive. We're always looking to put pressure back on opposition bowlers, as much as we can while reading the situation and be smart in those situations. And we've done it occasionally. We've done it now and again," he said.

"We just haven't done it consistently with enough people really reading the situation, taking the right options, and then putting it all together to get that score," Trescothick said.

"You can always question what we're trying to achieve. But the process and the conversations have always been the same and they won't change whether we are playing the first or the last game."
