Betfair has revealed confident fans have so far bet £5 million on England winning the tournament - more than double the amount placed on similar bets during the entire 2018 World Cup campaign, which saw the Three Lion crash out in the semi-finals.
The record sum suggests more of the public than ever before believe football is finally coming home.
Betfair's odds of 15/8 suggest this is England’s best chance of major tournament victory since 1966.
The bookmaker says its has seen more than three times the amount of money bet on England winning Euro 2020 than Euro 2016. The World Cup in 2006 was the last time Betfair saw the most amount of money bet on England lifting the trophy, at just over £2.5million/
According to Betfair ’s It’s-Coming-Home-O-Meter, chance of a Three Lions victory up to 32%, from 9% pre-tournament.
England are big odds-on favourites at 1/6 to progress against Ukraine, with odds of 2/5 suggesting Gareth Southgate’s side will secure the win in 90 minutes.
And Harry Kane now odds-on with Betfair at 10/11 to keep scoring run going while England captain just 18/1 for hat-trick
Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom: “We’ve seen a record sum of almost £5 million bet on England winning Euro 2020 which suggests confidence in football coming home is at an all-time high.
