England appoint Lisa Keightley head coach of women's cricket team

Lisa Keightley will become the first full-time female coach of England Women, when she replaces Mark Robinson in January.

The 48-year-old Australian is currently coach of Perth Scorchers in the Women’s Big Bash and Western Australia, and previously headed up England’s Academy.

Keightley played nine Tests and 82 ODIs in a 10-year international career for the Southern Stars.

Keightley said: "I’m massively excited. It’s a huge opportunity. It’s a team full of world-class players and to be given the chance to work with some of the players who I worked with a few years ago is really exciting. I can’t wait to get started and see where we can get to.”

Managing Director of Women’s Cricket Clare Connor said “I‘m sure that Lisa’s appointment will rightly be seen as another huge step for women’s cricket”.

Connor added that the four-strong interview panel were “unanimously impressed by Lisa’s demonstration of her suitability for the role, her impressive knowledge of the game and her passion for coaching and developing players”. She described Keightley as “the outstanding candidate”.

Her appointment means that Lord’s-based London Spirit, one of the eight new teams for the Hundred, will need a new coach.

Robinson, who led England to the 2017 World Cup title, left his role after a disappointing Ashes campaign this summer.
