England and West Indies cricketers took a knee before play finally got under way in Wednesday's first Test in Southampton.
Each set of players plus staff and officials all joined in with the gesture both on the pitch and around the boundary at the Ageas Bowl to show solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, with a number of West Indies stars also raising their right fists with black gloves.
Players also wore shirts with the unofficial Black Lives Matter logo designed by Watford captain Troy Deeney’s partner Alisha Hosannah on the collar, while West Indies legend Michael Holding and World Cup-winner Ebony Rainford-Brent - the first black woman to play for England - delivered a powerful message during a pre-match feature broadcast on Sky Sports.
There was a poignant minute's silence held before play began at 2pm BST following a significant rain delay in memory of late former West Indies batsman Sir Everton Weekes and all victims of the Covid-19 pandemic.
England players also paid tribute to those fighting against coronavirus by wearing the names of key workers on their training shirts.
When play did begin, England saw opener Dom Sibley quickly dismissed for a duck by a superb Shannon Gabriel delivery from the Pavilion End that hit off-stump, before further delays caused by the inclement weather conditions.
