England 51-12 Canada: Heather Cowell scores twice on debut to help extend winning streak

England’s women extended their winning streak to 17 matches with a 51-12 thumping of Canada at Twickenham Stoop on Sunday afternoon.

England were coming off the back of successive Autumn Nations Series victories over New Zealand and were set on their way to a comfortable triumph by Heather Cowell’s try after only four minutes, the first of two scores for the debutant.

The visitors scored tries through Paige Farries and Sabrina Poulin either side of Sarah Bern’s superb effort for England but Cowell grabbed her second just before the break to make it 20-12 to the hosts at half-time.

It was all one-way traffic after the break, however, as England proved too strong for a nation ranked third in the world - two below the Red Roses.

Tries from Bern, Alex Matthews and a double from Claudia MacDonald ensured an impressive victory for Simon Middleton’s in-form hosts.
